Peer Esteem
- Community Service: I have served in various program committees including ISSTA 2013, ISSTA 2014 Doctoral Symposium, and SSBSE 2009, 2010, and 2011. I am on the reivew board of ICSE 2015.
- Organisations: I served various general and programme chair roles, including Regression (2011 PC Chair, 2012 General Chair), ACM GECCO (2012 SBSE Track Chair), and SSBSE (2012 Graduate Student Track Chair, 2014 Program Co-chair).
- Reviewing: I was one of the distinguished referees for ACM TOSEM for 2011-2012. I regulary review for IEEE TSE, ACM TOSEM, STVR, SQJ, and JSS, among others.
- Group: UCL Software Engineering research is ranked at 4th place in the world by Microsoft Academic Search based on the last 5 years' research output.
Search Based Software Engineering
- Search-Based Software Engineering (SBSE) is an interdisciplinary field defined by the application of meta-heuristic optimisation techniques to various problems in software engineering. It is growing fast and SBSE work is being recognised by the software engineering community, as evidenced by the ever increasing number of publications, sometimes ensuring that software engineering conferences have dedicated SBSE sessions. Best Paper Awards for ICSE 2009 and 2013 have been awarded to SBSE research (automated program repair using genetic programming).
- I was among the top 12 authors in SBSE in a bibliometric analysis in 2011, roughly two years after my PhD. My application of genetic programming to Spectrum-Based Fault Localisation (SBFL) was the first research output that was provably human competitive. I received the best paper award of SSBSE 2011 by introducing GPGPU to SBSE.
