Research @ UCLIC

UCLIC conducts scientifically-based HCI research that starts with the study of people and interactive phenomena. From this, we can develop novel design solutions and methods for analysing interactive systems, and thus have an impact on society.

We are based in the disciplines of Psychology and Computer Science and promote two-way participation between the two disciplines and the two UCL departments. We enjoy our work and hope to enthuse others (including the public and UCLIC students) with an excitement for and understanding of the subject.

At UCLIC we research a range of phenomena related to Human-Computer Interaction, including:

In some cases we look at these in specific contexts (e.g. healthcare, journalism, law, driving, control rooms); in others, we focus on the phenomena abstracted away from the context.

We use a range of methodologies including experimentation, qualitative methods, cognitive modelling, and formal analysis.

We also study the development and use of evaluation methods that encapsulate insights about user experience for reasoning about the qualities of designs.
