Emeritus Professor of Cognitive Engineering

Professor Long worked for Shell International Petroleum Company until 1967. He joined the Medical Research Council's Applied Psychology Unit, Cambridge, in 1970, conducting basic and applied research in Human Factors and Human-Computer Interaction including telecommunications, becoming senior tenured scientist. In 1979, he took up an appointment at University College London, initally as Reader then as Professor of Cognitive Ergonomics, Director of Studies in Ergonomics, and Director of the Ergonomics and HCI Unit. Prof Long is now Emeritus Professor of Cognitive Engineering at UCLIC. He has authored and co-authored over 200 publications, and has acted as an external consultant to several companies, government agencies and universities.
