The main focus of my research is on ways of answering the question "How well does your system fit?", in terms of cognition, interaction and work. Broad themes include:

• Working with information and the use of electronic resources (digital libraries etc.);
• Human capabilities (cognitive resilience, sensemaking, decision making, problem solving, communication and conceptualisation), and how to design to support these capabilities better;
• Human error;
• Understanding individual and small team interactions with technology;
• Models, methods and theories for evaluating interactive systems.

I currently lead two EPSRC-funded projects: CHI+MED (on human error and the design of medical devices) and a Platform Grant (also on usability of systems in healthcare).

I teach Usability Evaluation Methods and Organisational Informatics on the MSc HCI-E.
