Using the Main Scanner (Canon printer-copier)
Our main Canon printer-copier includes a high-quality, versatile scanner (which in fact is used every time you
make a photocopy). The scanned document can be delivered to you either
- by email: quick & simple, but restricted to smallish documents (< 1 MB);
- on the TeraStation.
The instructions below cover both possibilities. The whole operation is quicker if you are already
registered in the Address Book, and the instructions deal with this case, with a note on what to
do if you are not already in it.
Step 1: "Log on" in usual way
- If the touchscreen is off, press the ON/OFF button at top righthand corner of control panel.
- Enter the standard numerical ID and Password, and press ID button.
Hereafter it's best to use the stylus provided to operate the touchscreen.
Step 2: Specify "Send"
- Press the Send tab at the top (NB not Scan!)
Step 3: Specify settings
- On the right, where it says Scan Settings, choose colour or B/W and an appropriate density
- On the right, where it says File Format, choose for B/W or colour
- Click the Two-sided original button if it is indeed two-sided and you're going to use the autofeeder.
Step 4: Specify the destination
This is where the Address Book pays off. To send by email (small documents only), simply press the Address Book button and select your email address. Similarly, to send to the TeraStation (necessary for larger documents), press the Address Book button and select your TeraStation address. (You may want to change the Type selector at top right to File instead of All.)
In either case, if you are not already in the Address Book, see instructions for how to get yourself there.
Step 5 (final): Scan the original(s)
Now scan in your original(s), as if you were copying them. If you place individual sheets by hand, you will need to press the Done button after the last one.
The machine will then try to send you the scanned document. Look carefully at the feedback information at the bottom of the screen.
If all is well, press the ID button to finish.
The Canon offers zillions of other options and facilities, if you're interested.
