+Empathic avatars is a new collaborative project between UCL Department of Computer Science VECG Group and the University of Cambridge Computer Lab Rainbow Research Group. The aim of the project is to create avatars (graphical representation of people in a virtual environment) that accurately represent the emotional state of their user. We will achieve this by using affect sensing technology developed in Cambridge. Instead of using a single, possibly unreliable, form of input we will combine together multiple sources of affective information, including facial expression, non-verbal aspects of voice and physiological measures such as heart rate. Combining different measures will allow us to build a more complete and accurate model of the users emotional state. We will then use virtual character technologies developed at UCL to map this emotional state onto appropriate body language of an animated character.

Empathic avatars is a new collaborative project between UCL Department of Computer Science VECG Group and the University of Cambridge Computer Lab Rainbow Research Group.
